Boy Shot Walking to School

A ninth-grade student was shot in a possibly gang-related attack while walking to a south-side high school today, officials said.

The wounded boy, George Hernandez, 16, ran more than two blocks to the school for help, Officer Don Lawrence said. He was reported in satisfactory condition at a hospital after the 10:35 a.m. shooting. A Locke High School spokesman said the boy was slightly grazed in the head above an eye. Police had a description of the assailant and are searching for him.
