George J. Smith, 82, football and track coach at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles during the 1930s, died Saturday of heart failure. Smith, later principal for 11 years at Lincoln High School, took Marshall to the city football championships in 1937. In 1924, he was an all-city guard at Lincoln High.
