No. 1 Torrey Pines Rolls in Tennis

The top-seeded Torrey Pines girls’ tennis team routed Monte Vista, 11-0, Wednesday in the second round of the Division 3-A playoffs to advance to the semifinals against fourth-seeded Poway today at Rancho Santa Fe at 2:30 p.m.
Kelly Kestler defeated Kristy Howard, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1 singles to lead Torrey Pines. At No. 2 singles, Torrey Pines’ Tiffany Kinney defeated Renee Rooks, 6-4, 7-5.
In other 3-A playoffs:
Poway 9, Mt. Carmel 2--Carla Quaresma defeated Christine Rilovick, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles for Poway. Other Poway winners included the doubles team of Karin Morrison-Christine Hittle, who defeated Anna Bazzel and Michelle Black, 6-1, 6-3. Fifth-seeded Mt. Carmel was 1 of 4 seeded teams from the Palomar League.
Bonita Vista 9, Mira Mesa 2--No. 1 Cammie Foley defeated Angela Cruz, 6-1, 6-1, to lead second-seeded Bonita Vista. Bonita Vista swept singles with victories from Connie Carbone, Grace Samodal and Mabelle Hernandez. Jennifer Stanford and Veena Prabhaker won for Bonita Vista at No. 1 doubles, defeating Jennifer Wilson and Feashu Shrun, 6-0, 6-4. Bonita Vista (17-1) faces San Dieguito today in the semifinals.
San Dieguito 9, Serra 2--Sarah Stoleberg and Heidi Djanogly improved their season record to 44-0, defeating Nhn Truong and Nicolle Mattice, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles to lead third-seeded San Dieguito. San Dieguito (14-2) got singles victories from Kim Djanogly, Moana McMullen and Linda Sisti.
Division 2-A
Second round
Valhalla 9, Carlsbad 2--Tracy King (No. 2), Debbie Bayer (No. 3) and Kim Bilsland (No. 4) posted singles victories to lead fourth-seeded Valhalla (16-1). In doubles, Kristen King and Michelle Muns led Valhalla with a victory at No. 1. Valhalla advanced to the quarterfinals today at Bishop’s.
Bishop’s 11, Rancho Buena Vista 0--Top-seeded Bishop’s (19-0) won 90 games, Rancho Buena Vista 8. Brooke Galardi defeated Janelle Harlon, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Stephanie Willis and Branaca Elsberry led Bishop’s with a 6-0, 6-1, victory over Lisa Williamson and Natalie Hodgkinson.
La Jolla 7 1/2, USDHS 3 1/2--Third-seeded La Jolla (9-3) beat USDHS for the third time in four tries this season, led by singles players Hana Ohkawa (No. 3) and Kim First (No. 4). La Jolla, which meets San Pasqual today, swept doubles.
San Pasqual 9, La Jolla Country Day 1 3/4--Beth Chote (No. 1), Stephanie Lorato (No. 2) and Nina Kim didn’t lose a game while leading second-seeded San Pasqual (16-5) to a singles sweep. Mara Vernon and Nikki Gannon led San Pasqual in doubles with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Kate Pyle and Isabel Schoepflin at No. 1.

Division II
First round
Kearny d. Our Lady of Peace, 16-14, 10-15, 7-15, 15-12, 16-14--Marcey Mueller led Kearny with 10 kills. Kearny (7-10) will play at top-seeded University of San Diego High Friday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals. USDHS, the defending 2-A champion, had a first-round bye.
Lincoln d. Clairemont, 15-13, 16-14, 15-5--Clairemont advanced to meet second-seeded La Jolla, which received a bye, in a quarterfinal Friday at 7 p.m. at La Jolla.
Division III
First round
Bishop’s d. Imperial, 15-5, 15-9, 12-15, 15-12--Setter Aimee Fitzpatrick led Bishop’s (10-9) at Bishop’s. Bishop’s will play at top-seeded Francis Parker Friday at 7 in the quarterfinals. Francis Parker, which received a first-round bye, has won the section Division III title the past 3 years and the state title the past 2.
Calvin Christian, d. Santa Fe Christian, 15-5, 15-4, 15-6--Fourth-seeded Calvin Christian had 17 aces in the victory at Calvin Christian. Betsy Wilgenburg led Calvin Christian with 9 kills and 3 aces, sophomore Carol VanderWoude had 5 kills and 2 aces, and sophomore Annetta Dejong had 5 aces. Calvin Christian (16-1) will play host to Holtville Saturday at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel Faith Church in Escondido.
Holtville d. Midway Baptist, 15-0, 15-8, 15-2--Veronica Ibarra led Holtville (18-3), the Desert League champs.
Marian d. Mountain Empire, 15-6, 15-3, 15-6--Ann Girolami had 6 kills, Mary Lou Hernandez 5 and Karen Ritz 8 aces for third-seeded Marian. Marian (20-4) will play host to Calipatria in the quarterfinals. Calipatria defeated La Jolla Country Day, 15-7, 15-3, 12-15, 15-13 at Calipatria.
Christian, d. Lutheran, 15-5, 15-3, 15-3--Becky Johnson had 12 aces and 3 kills for second-seeded Christian at Christian. Summer Oakes added 5 kills, and Amy Dawson had 6 aces for Christian (17-6), which will play host to Julian, a 13-15, 15-13, 6-15, 15-2, 15-5 winner Wednesday over Coronado, Friday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
