A 13-year-old girl was killed Tuesday afternoon after the car in which she was riding turned left in front of a pickup truck and was struck broadside, authorities said.
Another passenger in the car, a 19-year-old Anaheim man, was in very critical condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange, Anaheim Police Lt. Vince Howard said. The names of both the girl and the man were being withheld until their families could be notified.
The driver of the Camaro, Hermilo Sanchez, 18 of Anaheim, and the driver of the pickup, Darren Renison, 19, of Anaheim, were taken to Placentia-Linda Community Hospital in Placentia, police said. Both were treated for minor injuries and released.
According to police, the Camaro was westbound on Miraloma Avenue at 2:45 p.m. when it turned left in front of the pickup at Red Gum Street. The pickup swerved to avoid the Camaro but slammed into the car’s side, investigators said.
The accident remains under investigation.
