A Swedish brewery and soft drink producer has canceled a fruit juice commercial featuring banned Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson after a boycott threat.
Rune Hestner, chairman of a students’ sports body that planned the boycott, said the Falcon brewery told him that its commercial will not be shown as planned in Swedish movie theaters.
Johnson, stripped of his 100-meter gold medal in the Seoul Olympics last year after testing positive for steroids, reportedly was paid $50,000 for a 30-second spot for Mer products.
