Two British pianists, Ian Fountain and Benjamin Frith, split first prize in the sixth annual Artur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition Wednesday night in Jerusalem. Third prize went to Krzyszstof Jablonski of Poland. The three finalists had performed with the Israel Philharmonic in Tel Aviv and were selected from 58 entrants from more than 20 countries. The jury foreman noted that this year’s awards reflect significant improvement over the level of the last competition, held in 1986, when no first prize was given. The competition was established 15 years ago by the Tel Aviv-based Artur Rubinstein International Music Society in honor of the pianist.
