3 Held in Killing of ‘Good Samaritan’

Los Angeles police have arrested three of four youths suspected in the April 2 killing of a North Hollywood man who chased the group after they tried to steal a neighbor’s pickup truck.
The 16-year-old alleged triggerman and a 17-year-old companion were arrested at a home in North Hollywood, and the third suspect, also 16, was arrested while walking along a street in the community, Lt. Ron LaRue said.
The teen-agers were booked on suspicion of murder and were being held without bail at Sylmar Juvenile Hall.
Investigators are looking for a fourth juvenile in the shooting of Darris Garvin, 37, who apparently surprised the youths as they were attempting to steal a pickup truck that belonged to another tenant of his apartment complex. Garvin chased them for a block before one shot him in the abdomen, police said.
“He was just an innocent Good Samaritan,” LaRue said. “And he ends up paying the ultimate price.”
