IN BRIEF : U. of Cincinnati Line Coach Killed

CINCINNATI — Lawrence Cooley, 33, hired a month ago as offensive line coach on the University of Cincinnati’s football staff, was killed Wednesday night when his car smashed into a bridge abutment, police said. Police in suburban Arlington Heights said Cooley’s car struck the bridge along Interstate 75.
Cooley, a native of Monroe, Mich., played football at the University of Nebraska and was a member of the Cornhuskers’ 1978 Orange Bowl team. He began his coaching career at Nebraska, and also coached at Minnesota and Northern Illinois before going to Ball State two years ago.
