Extradition Put Off for at Least a Week

Authorities attempting to extradite from Columbus, Ohio, to California a man wanted in connection with a death that has been linked to an alleged insurance and embezzlement scam will have to wait at least one week, a judge ruled Monday.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Dale Crawford granted a request for a continuance in extradition proceedings against Melvin E. Hanson, one of three men authorities believe were involved.
Hanson, former business partner John Hawkins and Glendale neurologist Richard Boggs face murder and other charges in Los Angeles stemming from the alleged scam, which investigators say included faking Hanson’s death. Authorities in Ohio and California say the scam was designed to net the men at least $3.5 million.
