Penn Overtakes Wisconsin at End; UCLA Crew Fourth

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. — Pennsylvania overtook Wisconsin with its final strokes to win the Intercollegiate Rowing Assn. Challenge Cup on Onondaga Lake Saturday.
The Quakers, who won the final two races to take the overall Ten Eyck Trophy, stroked the 2,000-meter sprint course in 5 minutes 56 seconds to edge Wisconsin by two-tenths of a second.
It was the Quakers’ 11th Challenge Cup victory in the 87-year history of the race for varsity eights and their first since 1972.
Northeastern, the defending champion, finished third in 5:57.5, and UCLA was fourth in 5:59.6.
Pennsylvania broke Wisconsin’s three-year hold on the Ten Eyck with a total of 372.55 points to the Badgers’ 350.6.
