Sparky Anderson to Take Over Again Against Red Sox

DETROIT — Detroit Manager Sparky Anderson, sent home more than two weeks ago to recover from exhaustion, was to take over again for tonight’s scheduled game against the Boston Red Sox, the Tigers said today.
“He will be in uniform,” club spokesman Greg Shea said. “He will be running the show.”
Anderson, General Manager Bill Lajoie and team physician Dr. Clarence Livingood planned a news conference this afternoon, Shea said.
Anderson, 55, left the team May 19 and returned Sunday night to Detroit from his home in Thousand Oaks.
Detroit was 13-24 and coming off its worst start since 1953 when Anderson left. Livingood said Anderson needed to relax.
