MINNEAPOLIS — Wally Backman, the Minnesota Twins second baseman who has been plagued with a sore left shoulder most of the season, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season.
Veteran infielder Doug Baker was called up from Class AAA Portland to replace Backman, and catcher Greg Olson was optioned to Portland to make room on the roster for left fielder Dan Gladden, who was expected to come off the disabled list today.
Backman reinjured his shoulder Saturday in a game against the Angels.
