South Bay Prep Basketball Stars to Vie in Slam-n-Jam Tourney

Several of the South Bay’s top high school basketball players will compete in the sixth annual Slam-n-Jam Invitational tournament starting Monday at Cal State Long Beach.
The tournament, which runs through Saturday, includes prep all-star teams from 13 states as well as Washington and the Bahamas. Twelve Southern California teams are included in the 36-team field.
Area players expected to participate include 6-foot-8 junior Frank Willis of Leuzinger and seniors Steve King (6-5) of Inglewood, Nikosi Littleton (6-3) and Bobby Kelly (6-2) of Carson, Jeff Crowe (6-7) of Morningside and Shawn Fruge (6-4) of St. Bernard.
Perhaps the most heralded player involved is 7-5 center Shawn Bradley of Emery County High School of Castle Dale, Utah. Bradley, an agile and gifted big man, is being touted as a future star.
Notable Southern California players participating include 6-11 Cherokee Parks of Marina High in Huntington Beach; 6-5 Scott McCorkle of Capistrano Valley; 6-5 Ernest Killum of Lynwood; 6-5 Shon Tarver of Santa Clara, the Southern Section 2-A Player of the Year and 6-7 Tony Clark of Valhalla, the San Diego Player of the Year.
Tickets for the six-day tournament are available at Ticketmaster outlets. Admission entitles fans to view all 16 games and events scheduled daily.
