A son of Northern Dancer brought a sales high $2.8 million from a leading Japanese breeder during the second day of the Keeneland July Selected Yearling Sale at Lexington, Ky.
Zenya Yoshida, owner of Shadai Farm and buyer of the Northern Dancer offspring, said he plans to race the colt in Europe. William T. Young’s Overbrook Farm of Lexington sold the bay colt.
The colt out of English champion Mrs. Penny is one of the last two foals by Northern Dancer, who sired 135 stakes winners and 23 champions.
The second-highest price of the session was the $2.3 million paid by Sheik Mohammed al Maktoum’s Darley Stud Management for a bay colt by Blushing Groom out of stakes winner Folk Art.
