A Cal State Fullerton associate professor of nursing has won a national research award for a study she conducted on intensive care units, university officials said.
Sandra Lookinland was named recipient of the American Assn. of Critical-Care Nurses’ national research award for the study she conducted at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in Carson.
Lookinland’s study, which examines the measurement of blood circulating in the bodies of critically ill patients who are both on and off respirators, was published in the March/April issue of the Journal of Nursing Research.
She noted significant drops in oxygen levels of patients disconnected temporarily from ventilation equipment while pressure readings of their pulmonary arteries were taken.
Lookinland, who has a doctorate in physiology from the UCLA, has been a member of the Fullerton faculty since 1982.
