A former medical malpractice attorney pleaded not guilty this week to a charge of grand theft stemming from an accusation by a client that the lawyer stole funds from him.
Gordon von Kalinowski, 70, an attorney for 39 years before the State Bar took over his practice some months ago as part of a disciplinary procedure, had a public defender appointed for him at his arraignment Monday.
San Diego Municipal Judge Frank Brown set a preliminary hearing for Oct. 24.
Brown ordered Kalinowski booked and then released on his own recognizance.
The bar investigated the complaint of Kalinowski’s client, which eventually led to the district attorney’s office charging him last week to one felony charge of grand theft.
The victim who filed the complaint appeared at the arraignment of his former attorney Monday.
