Next year’s Oscars won’t come around until March 26, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has already picked the producer. Producer-director Gilbert Cates, who has served two terms as president of the Directors Guild of America, will do the honors for the 62nd annual event at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center. Cates also is in his sixth year on the academy’s Board of Governors, representing the Directors Branch.
