WORLD : Bush Promises More Poland Aid

WASHINGTON — The Bush Administration offered assurances to Poland and its congressional supporters today that it may step up U.S. aid soon.
“The Polish government can count on our continued support,” State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said. Another U.S. official said a boost in food assistance is likely.
Boucher said the emergence of the Solidarity labor movement as in control of the government was a “key factor” in a situation that he described as evolving. “We felt that additional measures might be appropriate, and we are seriously considering some,” he said.
