A 67-year-old Southeast San Diego man was arrested Wednesday and will be charged with the slaying of a retired neighbor, San Diego police said.
Jose Gomez was to be charged in connection with the shooting death of Rafael Saavedra, 65.
Saavedra had several gunshot wounds when he was found shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday on the front porch of the Market Street apartment building where both men lived, police said. He was rushed to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m.
Police said a revolver was found inside an apartment at the Market Street address, but other details remained murky. A motive in the slaying was not immediately clear.
