NEW YORK — A convicted drug dealer and murder suspect who shot two police detectives to death as they drove him to the Rikers Island jail was apprehended 10 hours after the slayings, police said early today.
Jay (Stoney) Harrison, 25, was captured in East New York. Charges were pending, Sgt. Raymond O’Donnell said.
Harrison apparently had been handcuffed while he was being transported to the jail, and police investigators said they were unsure where he got the gun used in the shooting near La Guardia Airport and Grand Central Parkway’s Riker’s Island exit.
The detectives, William Guerzon, 46, and Keith Williams, 34, were shot in the head and back, authorities said.
Harrison had been sitting alone in the back seat, a violation of police procedure, Police Commissioner Richard Condon said.
