32-Team Torrance Soccer Tourney Kicks Off Today

The 22nd annual South Torrance High School Holiday Soccer Tournament gets under way tonight with two games and resumes Saturday with a full schedule at South.
Top-seeded Palos Verdes, the defending tournament and Southern Section 4-A champion, heads the 32-team field and begins play at 9 a.m. Saturday against Santa Margarita. The Sea Kings are led by All-CIF forward Doug Kay.
In games tonight, No. 4-seeded South faces Miraleste at 5 and No. 2-seeded West Torrance takes on San Pedro at 7. South and West have each won five boys tournament titles, the most of any school.
Other South Bay teams participating are Rolling Hills, Mira Costa, Redondo, St. Bernard, North Torrance, Torrance, Hawthorne and Chadwick.
Games on Saturday begin at 7:30 a.m., with second-round games starting at noon. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played Dec. 21, with the finals Dec. 22.
