COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Tucker Leads Wake Forest Past Alabama

Anthony Tucker made two free-throws with 29 seconds to play Thursday night to clinch Wake Forest’s 67-65 victory over No. 20 Alabama at Winston-Salem, N.C.
“Tonight was probably the low point in my coaching career,” Alabama Coach Wimp Sanderson said. “We played with no intensity, and did nothing inside. There was no hustle on our part tonight.”
Tucker scored 20 points as the Demon Deacons (6-1) held off a late charge by the Crimson Tide (7-2).
No. 12 Duke 89, Davidson 44--The Blue Devils, playing their first game after a 12-day break for exams, used a swarming defense to smother the Wildcats at Davidson, N.C.
Duke (4-2) forced 28 turnovers that led to numerous easy baskets. The Blue Devils limited Davidson (1-5) to 30% shooting. The Wildcats made only 18 of 61 shots.
No. 15 N.C. State 110, North Carolina Asheville 70--Rodney Monroe made nine three-point shots and scored 31 points to help the Wolfpack rout the Bulldogs at Raleigh, N.C.
Accurate outside shooting helped the Wolfpack (7-2) take a 49-33 halftime lead. They made 10 of 17 shots from three-point range in the first half, including four of eight by Monroe.
No. 23 La Salle 71, Villanova 70--Doug Overton scored 19 points and freshman guard Randy Woods scored five points in the last 53 seconds as the Explorers defeated the Wildcats at Philadelphia.
Woods made a three-point shot with 53 seconds remaining to give La Salle (5-0) a 69-66 lead. Villanova (6-4) cut it to 69-68 on a layup by Tom Greis, but two free throws by Woods with 21 seconds left provided the winning points.
San Diego State 67, Southwest Texas 53--Shawn Jamison scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Aztecs (6-3) defeated the Bobcats in a first round game of the University of Alabama Birmingham Tournament.
