SOCCER ROUNDUP : Brinkman’s Three Goals Lift Royal to 3-2 Win

Royal High’s Matt Brinkman scored a hat trick to lead the Highlanders to a 3-2 victory over Santa Paula in a championship second-round match of the Simi Valley tournament at Simi Valley High on Thursday.
The senior center-forward scored his third goal of the game with less than a minute remaining to snap a 2-2 tie.
Royal (4-0-1) jumped to a 1-0 lead when Brinkman scored at the 10-minute mark and took a 2-0 advantage on Brinkman’s shot with a minute remaining in the first half.
Santa Paula tied the score, 2-2, in the second half on a penalty kick and a free kick.
In other Simi Valley tournament matches:
Simi Valley 3, Calabasas 1--Forward Brian Weaver scored on an assist from Kenny Greninger at the one-minute mark and midfielder Craig Hampton scored on a Weaver assist 12 minutes later to pace the Pioneers in a championship second-round match.
Simi Valley (6-0) scored its final goal two minutes into the second half on a Greninger head shot.
Calabasas sweeper John Guillebaux converted a penalty kick to end Simi Valley’s five-match shutout streak.
Westlake 3, Bakersfield 0--Glen Wiger, David Sassano and Tony Terani each scored a goal and Sassano added an assist to lead the Warriors (8-2-1) in a championship second-round match.
Chaminade 1, Thousand Oaks 0--Chris Alcazar scored on a first-half penalty kick after Thousand Oaks’ Joel Gurvine caught the ball with his hands in a consolation second-round match.
Gurvine mistook a referee’s whistle from a neighboring field for an official’s signal in his game and reached for the airborne ball.
