Ron McBride, an Arizona assistant coach, was chosen as the University of Utah football coach.
McBride, 50, an assistant for 26 years, including two stints at Utah and terms at Cal State Long Beach, San Jose State, UC Riverside and Gavilan Junior College in Gilroy, Calif., replaces Jim Fassel, who was fired last month.
McBride earlier had indicated his interest in jobs at Nevada Las Vegas and Wisconsin.
