CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN JOSE : Court Reinstates Murder Conviction

The 6th District Court of Appeal has reinstated the murder conviction of David Eugene Archer, who killed a handyman in a vacant Pebble Beach house four years ago. Archer was convicted of first-degree murder in the April 30, 1986, slaying of Roy Podell, and sentenced to 42 years to life in prison. The appellate court earlier had reversed Archer’s conviction, ruling that jurors received improper instructions from Monterey County Superior Court Judge Robert O’Farrell.
