LONDON — Jane Makim, sister of the Duchess of York, the former Sarah Ferguson, today accepted substantial undisclosed damages and a public apology from the Daily Mirror newspaper over stories suggesting she had an adulterous affair.
The adultery allegations appeared in three stories published in 1988. Two were on the front page.
The Daily Mirror also ran a story that alleged Makim tried to trick her estranged husband, Alexander Makim, into signing visa papers so she could take their two children to England. The Makims live in Australia.
Announcing settlement of Makim’s libel action, her lawyer, Andrew Caldecott, told Judge Michael Davies at the High Court in London that the allegations were untrue.
