Pomona Won’t Vote on Card Clubs Issue

Pomona City Council members Friday withdrew from the June 5 ballot a measure that would have authorized card clubs in the city.
Council members Nell Soto and C.L. (Clay) Bryant, who voted last month to submit the issue to voters, said they changed their minds. Soto said the proposal had drawn so much “dissent and objection that we should withdraw it from the ballot.” Bryant said he rethought his position after federal authorities seized the Bell Gardens Bicycle Club in a drug laundering case.
