COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fresno St. Pitcher Shuts Down UC Irvine

Eric Schullstrom pitched a four-hitter and struck out 16 to lead Fresno State to an 8-3 victory over UC Irvine in Big West Conference baseball game at Fresno Friday.
Al Rodriguez had two doubles and drove in a run for UC Irvine (23-14, 1-3 in conference play).
Ken Whitworth (8-3) took the loss. He allowed six runs, two of them earned, in 4 2/3 innings. Irvine had three errors in the fifth inning when Fresno State (24-11, 4-0) scored six runs to take a 6-0 lead.
In nonconference baseball:
Pepperdine 6, Cal State Fullerton 1--Chris Sheff, a freshman from Laguna Hills High School, hit a solo home run in fourth inning to give host Pepperdine a 5-1 lead. Pepperdine (23-14) scored two runs in the first and two in the second.
Britt Craven (7-2) got the victory. Sam Colarusso (3-3) took the loss for Fullerton (18-15).
Fullerton’s run came in the first inning when Phil Nevin singled, moved to second and third on grounders and scored on a single by Rich Gonzales.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Pepperdine 6, UC Irvine 2--Alejo Mancisidor defeated Richard Lubner, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, to lead fourth-ranked Pepperdine at Malibu. In No. 1 singles, Trevor Kronemann defeated David Wells-Roth, 6-1, 7-6, for Irvine (14-9).
In the Cal State Hayward softball tournament:
Chapman 9, Sonoma State 1--Jacki Blake (15-3) pitched a four-hitter and Sandy Olivas had two hits, including a home run, and scored three runs for Chapman.
