Eight peace activists who hammered on missile nose cones at a General Electric plant nearly 10 years ago were sentenced in Norristown, Pa., to time already served. Judge James Buckingham said in Montgomery Common Pleas Court that he was swayed by their testimony and that “this was a nonviolent affair.” But he warned the “Plowshares Eight,” as they have been called, that further such acts would violate their parole. Defendants include Father Daniel Berrigan, New York; his brother, former priest Philip S. Berrigan, Baltimore; Molly Rush, a suburban Pittsburgh grandmother; Elmer Maas, New York; Anne Montgomery, a nun, New York; Father Carl Kabat, Baltimore; Dean Hammer, New Haven, Conn., and John Schuchardt, Madison, Conn.
