CBS Inc.: The television network said its first-quarter profit jumped 52% to $85.3 million, compared to $56.1 million in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 16% to $851 million. The company attributed the increase to strong advertiser demand for time during the NCAA basketball tournament broadcasts. The company also said the Super Bowl pro football championship broadcast in January helped create “markedly higher” sales and operating income for the quarter.
