BOSTON — The Grateful Dead sent a $5,000 check to the Carol DiMaiti Stuart scholarship fund, which was started by the family of the woman killed in Boston’s bizarre murder tale. Janie Bischoff, who is working on the fund with Carol’s parents, Giusto and Evelyn DiMaiti, said the Dead’s contribution was unsolicited and that it helped push the fund’s total to $401,150.
The fund was established to benefit students in the Mission Hill section of Boston because the neighborhood suffered adverse publicity after Carol was killed there last October by her husband, Charles Stuart, who initially blamed the killing on a black gunman.
