‘Fog Jockey’ Faces Criminal Charges

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Arraignment on criminal charges has been set for April 23 in District Court for the “fog jockey” who was suspended for allegedly taking a fog-shrouded shortcut to the winner’s circle at Delta Downs last January.
Sylvester J. Carmouche Jr. faces a misdemeanor charge of attempted theft of $2,200. He is accused of trying to win the purse in a Jan. 11 race by hiding out in thick fog and then rejoining the mile-long race as its winner.
Carmouche was suspended from racing in Louisiana for 10 years by the Louisiana Racing Commission.
He could face up to a year in jail if convicted of attempted theft.
