OAKLAND — The $14-million Waterfront Plaza Hotel is scheduled to open in August.
The hotel will be the first new hotel for Oakland since the 480-room Hyatt Regency opened in 1983.
Construction on the five-story, 144-room hotel began in November, 1989.
“This is a magnificent addition to the waterfront,” Mayor Lionel Wilson said at the hotel’s “topping off” ceremony.
The hotel is part of an ambitious $100-million development plan by the Port of Oakland for Jack London Square and the surrounding waterfront.
