A federal court in Baltimore ruled that a separate trial is necessary to determine whether damages occurred to the NFL Player Retirement Plan, as claimed by NFL Players Assn.-appointed trustees.
The NFLPA has questioned whether NFL teams made sufficient pension contributions from 1984 to 1987. In April, the players association was denied an appeal seeking to overturn a ruling by the National Labor Relations Board that the 28 NFL clubs acted lawfully in not making $22.68 million in pension contributions for 1988 and 1989.
