College to Eliminate Personnel Position

The Glendale College Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday to abolish the position of director of classified personnel.
The decision was a result of an April vote by the college’s classified employees to terminate the merit system in which a three-member independent commission appointed the personnel director, who acted as a liaison between the classified employees and the commission. The commission oversaw hiring, firing and promotion of the college’s 243 classified workers. The merit system had been in effect since 1981.
Personnel matters will be handled by the Board of Trustees after the $66,000-a-year position is terminated June 30.
