Paramount Advances to Quarterfinals

Paramount High, with a 7-3 victory over Magnolia on Tuesday, has advanced to the CIF Southern Section baseball 4-A quarterfinals for the first time in six years.
The Pirates (16-4) will play Upland at home Friday afternoon at 3:30.
Other winning area teams in second-round games Tuesday were:
* La Serna, which beat Bellflower, 6-1, in Division 3-A behind the pitching of Bryan Dunagan. The Lancers (25-5) will play host to Saugus on Friday.
* Valley Christian, which defeated Temecula Valley, 4-1, in 2-A. Catcher Royal Lord broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run double for the 19-3 Crusaders, who will be at El Segundo on Friday.
* St. Anthony, which beat Whittier Christian, 15-5, in 2-A. The Saints (14-9) play Friday at Santa Ynez.
* Leffingwell Christian, which upset second-seeded Highland Hall, 7-7, in Small Schools. The Lions (12-7) will be at Woodcrest Christian on Friday.
In softball, St. Joseph of Lakewood (14-10) will play host to Fountain Valley (21-6) in a 5-A quarterfinal game at 3 p.m. today.
In 3-A second-round games Tuesday, Bellflower (23-6) defeated South Torrance, 3-0; La Mirada (23-6) routed Ontario, 11-0, and Mayfair (18-10) edged Tustin, 1-0.
In 2-A, Santa Fe (23-1) advanced with a 2-0 victory over Cajon.
