Itabari Njeri, a Times staff writer in the View section, was lauded at the American Book Awards for her new book, “Every Good-bye Ain’t Gone.”
The much-praised portrait of Njeri’s own diverse and unusual family was one of almost two dozen works cited Thursday night by judges for making an “outstanding contribution to American literature.”
Besides honoring Njeri, the 10-year-old American Book Awards, which recently announced it will move its annual ceremony from New York to coincide with the Miami Book Fair International, also presented lifetime achievement awards to writers Allen Ginsberg and Sonia Sanchez.
