BARCELONA — Atlanta won the right today to be first to present its case for hosting the 1996 summer Olympic Games to the International Olympic Committee.
The U.S. city won the draw over Athens, Toronto, Belgrade, Melbourne and Manchester, in that order.
The six cities will present their arguments to the IOC in Tokyo next September. The draw was made at an IOC meeting in Barcelona, site of the 1992 games.
Some delegates at a coinciding meeting of the Assn. of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) said Manchester, Atlanta and Melbourne are favorites.
