‘Cheers’ Actor Gets Early Release From Jail

Television actor Kelsey Grammer was freed this week after serving two weeks in Los Angeles County Jail for violating probation by failing to attend an alcohol abuse program, officials said Friday.
Grammer, 35, of Van Nuys, who plays Dr. Frasier Crane on the television series “Cheers,” was sentenced to 30 days in jail but was released early Wednesday because of jail overcrowding.
Inmates typically serve only part of their sentences because of overcrowding, said jail officials, noting that Grammer did not get special treatment. The actor is due back in court Wednesday for arraignment on a cocaine possession charge.
