TOKYO — Hitachi Ltd. said today it will develop, manufacture and market microprocessor chips based on technology developed by Hewlett-Packard Co.
Hitachi said the decision follows an agreement between the two companies last July to jointly develop a new high-speed chip to be used in their computer systems.
“This new agreement strengthens the relationship between the companies and aims to promote wide acceptance of PA-RISC. It will make HP’s PA-RISC product widely available in the commercial marketplace for the first time,” Hitachi said.
Hitachi said it plans to introduce the new chip in the spring of 1991 and eventually expand the product line ranging from several million instructions a second to 100 or more MIPS.
