CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : LOS ANGELES : $50,000 Reward in 3 Bank Bombings

A statewide banking association offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the indictment of those responsible for three fiery bombings that rocked banks in or near Palm Springs. The bombings, in which explosives have gone off in night deposit boxes early on Monday mornings, have occurred during the past five weeks. The most recent occurred this week at a Security Pacific bank in Indio. No one has been hurt, but each institution has been heavily damaged. Edmund J. Pistey, an executive officer with the San Francisco-based California Bankers Assn., announced the reward at a news conference at the FBI’s Los Angeles headquarters.
