Croatia Discarding Its Communist Symbols

BELGRADE, Yugoslavia — The nation’s second-biggest republic, Croatia, has decided to drop all Communist symbols from its institutions, the newspaper Borba said Thursday.
The state presidency in Croatia, where Communists were defeated last month in the first free elections since World War II, has approved draft amendments to drop “socialist” from the republic’s name and to remove the Communist red star from its flag and coat of arms, the paper said.
