Dr. Denton Firm in Chapter 11: Apparel maker Salant Corp. sought refuge in bankruptcy court after struggling unsuccessfully with debts incurred in buying Manhattan Industries Inc., a larger rival, two years ago. It was the second Chapter 11 filing for the New York-based firm, whose nationally known brands include Dr. Denton sleep wear, John Henry shirts and Lady Manhattan sportswear. Salant blamed its troubles on weakness in the retail business at a time of year that is always slowest for the company.
