Bradley Picks Former Aide for DWP Board

Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley on Wednesday nominated Mary Nichols, his former campaign manager who is now an environmental lawyer, to the Department of Water and Power’s board of commissioners.
Nichols, who guided one of Bradley’s unsuccessful gubernatorial races, would replace Carol Wheeler, a labor union executive who resigned earlier this week at Bradley’s request. Bradley said he wanted to have a majority of “environmental leaders” on the board. Nichols is a senior attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Earlier, Bradley appointed his former chief deputy, Mike Gage, and Heal the Bay Director Dorothy Green to the five-member board.
The nomination requires City Council approval.
