In a case investigated by the Metropolitan Homicide Task Force, a man charged with trying to kill a prostitute pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually assaulting her.
James Jackson, 23, of El Cajon, entered his guilty plea to forcible oral copulation and assault likely to produce great bodily injury in the Feb. 26 incident.
Two detectives from the task force, which is investigating the deaths of 42 women, mostly prostitutes, since 1985, watched Jackson enter his plea.
Superior Court Judge William Mudd set sentencing for July 26. Jackson faces a maximum of four years in state prison.
Authorities dropped charges that Jackson tried to murder the 30-year-old prostitute by choking her after they argued over the price of a sex act.
At the time of his March 1 arrest, Jackson was a civilian worker in the maintenance department at North Island Naval Air Station.
