Brig. Gen. Richard Huckaby retired Thursday after 31 years in the Marine Corps and turned over his command of Camp Pendleton to Maj. Gen. John Monahan.
Monahan, who already commands I Marine Expeditionary Force and the 1st Marine Division, will command the base until late summer.
Then, Maj. Gen. Walter E. Boomer, who commands the 4th Marine Division based in New Orleans, will replace Monahan as commander of Camp Pendleton and the I Marine Expeditionary Force.
A new commanding general for the 1st Marine Division, which is the ground combat part of the expeditionary force, will be announced soon.
