The status of major fires in Southern California: 1) SANTA BARBARA (INCLUDING GOLETA AND MONTECITO): Santa Barbara County Status: Began Wednesday afternoon, still burning. Damage: $190 million Acres burned: 4,000 Homes destroyed: 567 Injuries: 40 Firefighters and equipment deployed: 800 firefighters; 62 engines, two bulldozers, one helicopter and three air tankers. Cause: Arson suspected. 2) GLENDALE: Los Angeles County Status: Began Wednesday afternoon, contained by 8 p.m. Wednesday. Damage: $50 million Acres burned: 350 Homes destroyed: At least 46 Homes damaged: 20 Injuries: Eight minor ones Firefighters deployed: About 300 firefighters; three water-dropping helicopters, two observation helicopters. Cause: Arson suspected, two people being sought. 3) CLAREMONT: Los Angeles County Status: Began Thursday afternoon, contained but still burning by evening. Damage: No estimate. Acres burned: 400 acres. Structures destroyed: None yet. Injuries: None reported. Firefighters and equipment deployed: More than 250 firefighters; 40 engines, 5 helicopters. Cause: Arson suspected. 4) CHINO HILLS: Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties Status: Began Wednesday, contained by nightfall Thursday. Damage: No estimate Acres burned: 6,250 Homes destroyed: 12 Injuries: Minor ones to eight firefighters. Firefighters and equipment deployed: More than 600 firefighters; 103 engines, 12 bulldozers, four helicopters, six air tankers. Cause: Arson suspected, one man arrested. 5) CORONA: Bedford Canyon, Riverside County Status: Began Wednesday, still burning. Damage: No estimate Acres burned: 2,200 acres Structures destroyed: 12 Injuries: Nine firefighters suffering effects of extreme heat and smoke inhalation. Firefighters and equipment deployed: About 400 firefighters; nine engines, three helicopters. Cause: A controlled burn that jumped fire lines of California Department of Forestry. 6) HEMET: Riverside County Status: Fully controlled Thursday Damage: No estimate Acres burned: An undeveloped parcel of about 125 acres, southwest of Hemet. Injuries: Seventeen firefighters burned, one severely. Cause: Under investigation. 7) RINCON: San Diego County Status: Began Tuesday night, controlled by 6 a.m. Thursday. Damage: No estimate. Acres burned: 300 Homes destroyed: None Injuries: None Firefighters deployed: 110 Cause: Arson suspected.
