A man was in critical condition with a gunshot wound in the forehead after he was shot in his car Wednesday night in Sherman Oaks while driving along Woodman Avenue near the Ventura Freeway, Los Angeles police and hospital officials said.
The man, whose name was not released, managed to turn right onto the westbound Ventura Freeway on-ramp before collapsing in his mid-sized car, police said.
He was taken to the Medical Center of North Hollywood after the 9:30 p.m. shooting.
Police said they were looking into the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.
Detectives were interviewing a passenger who was in the car at the time of the shooting. The passenger was unhurt.
Abel Salazar, 34, who lives a few yards from the shooting scene, said he heard “a sound like fireworks . . . it sounded like six shots. That’s what I heard.”
Authorities said they were closing the Woodman Avenue on-ramp to the westbound Ventura Freeway for at least three hours while investigators searched for clues.
