LAUREL: While Assemblyman Gil Ferguson (R-Newport Beach) is known for his scorching letters (A1), not all are darts. After his recent state Senate loss, he reminisced to campaign contributors about the time he led his World War II Marine platoon into battle. “I’ve found that a political campaign is much like war,” he wrote. While there are no bullets, “there certainly are casualties and there is that test of friendship and loyalty.”
