BUCHAREST, Romania — The sister of executed Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was paid for 12 years as a supervisor at an electrical goods factory but never turned up for work, a Bucharest court was told today.
Maria Agache has been charged with defrauding the state and using improper influence to obtain refrigerators, televisions and freezers that she sold for a total of $30,000, Romania’s news agency Rompres reported.
Agache, one of several Ceausescu family members facing trial, had her case adjourned until July 19.
The court was told that Agache, who had not completed elementary schooling, was employed at the factory from 1962 until January this year, gaining promotion to the post of supervisor.
